Steptember 25

I'm taking on Steptember! Will you please show your support?

10k steps a day for kids with cerebral palsy! My gym are doing this as a team and as soon as they mentioned it I was in! My why;

My Aunty Winnie lived with cerebral palsy and she taught me some of the greatest lessons in empathy, life and death. She was in a wheelchair for most of her life, but when she was younger she had access to more physical therapy which helped her to be able to move a little more. This was back when disability services were horrible places. The world is a little different now, and access to quality services is much better, but...money is always going to be a factor.

I know we sometimes get charity fatigue, so my view is always that if you can't give, we can still learn. The biggest lesson I learned from Winnie was allowing people time when talking, especially when it's a difficult task for them. It was difficult for her to speak and form words, but she absolutely had things to say....not to mention jokes to tell. :)

Nothing physical was easy for Winnie, but she had a great empathy for others, especially her friends in the nursing homes where she lived.

My profile photo is of Winnie canoeing with her cousins - I love the freedom and happiness she is exuding. If we can raise $200 for babies and children to access therapy we will be a part of helping a child with cerebral palsy achieve simple physical things that we take for granted.
