Steptember 25

im fundraising for kids like my Myla

I started this Steptember journey the year I found out my daughter had severe cerebral palsy.
Myla and Ivy were born at 30 weeks and 5 days due to twin to twin transfusion.
The doctors told me not to get excited during my pregnancy because they didn’t know if the twins would survive.
Surprisingly the twin the doctors were worried about (Ivy) is perfectly healthy with no medical issues.
Myla on the other hand, didn’t breathe for the first four minutes leaving her with holes throughout her brain which in turn has led to the cerebral palsy she has been diagnosed with.
Myla is strong and determined. Even though she can not walk independently she does so using her walking frame.
Even though Myla can’t talk - she has found a way to do so using her own prompts and with the help of an eye-gaze which talks for her! It’s pretty cool.
Myla has always been given the equipment and technology she needs to assist her to do all these things we do without hesitation or thought.
Myla is having spinal surgery and hip surgery within the next 6 months. It is massive for a person let alone a 9 year old who shouldn’t have to deal with such shitty circumstances but my Myla is happy and has the biggest smile no matter what she goes through.
I’m doing this so everyone that has cerebral palsy has the chance to do all those things we do! Raising funds for equipment and services, people need to help them live a healthy and ‘normal’ life.
I want to raise awareness about how being ‘different’ is cool and how everyone just wants to be included no matter what and who they are.

Today’s effort

Saturday 6th Sep
Today the fam walked from home (Emu plains) to Jamison park (Penrith) to watch our niece play in the semi finals. She played so well and then it was time to walk all that way home again! It’s spring! The sun was out and we all got some colour while listening to our fave tunes.
Great day stepping!!
