This STEPtember has a little more meaning for me.
Not too long ago, I met someone whose 13 year old son lives with cerebral palsy. I don’t know their family’s journey or the challenges they face, and I wouldn’t pretend to understand what that experience is like.
What has stayed with me is the quiet humility with which he carries himself. You really never know what someone may be facing behind closed doors, what they carry with them each day, or the strength it can take to simply keep showing up without complaint. There is something about that kind of quiet strength that has earned a great deal of respect from me.
It has also given me some perspective on how much so many of us have, and how easily we can take the simplest things for granted, including the ability to move freely every day.
So this September, I’m stepping with a little more gratitude and purpose, and hoping to raise something along the way for people living with cerebral palsy and the families who walk alongside them.
