Stepping Up for Steptember : My Story

On June 26th, I had an interaction on Willoughby Road in Crows Nest that I will never forget. I met Matthew Kusch, a lead generator for Cerebral Palsy Alliance (CPA).

As I slowly started venturing back out into the community independently following a life-changing stroke, street fundraisers would ignore me, look the other way or look at me with pity. But Matthew was completely different. For the first time in 19 months, I felt truly seen as a person beyond my disabilities. Matthew genuinely represents the culture of CPA—embodying all the advocacy, innovation, support they continuously lead and enable throughout our community. His warmth, respect, and authentic connection represented CPA exceptionally well. After signing the petition he was raising support for, I thanked him and shared just how deeply moved I was by his actions.

Supporting CPA as an organisation for the last 7 years, that positive experience reaffirmed why this cause means so much to me and inspired me to take on this challenge. This month, I’m stepping up for a month-long mood boost and committing to 5,000 steps a day—but I really need your help!

Your donation means the world to me, and even more to the children and babies who will gain access to critical early therapy during their first 1,000 days of life—giving them the chance to grow up with a greater sense of independence.

Donate now for an instant mood boost and to keep me moving forward!

Thank you so much for supporting my journey and this incredible cause.
