Steptember 26

I'm taking on Steptember! Will you please show your support?

Every 20 hours an Australian baby is born with Cerebral Palsy. One in 760 Australians have Cerebral Palsy. Although there are 5 different forms, each person with Cerebral Palsy's experiences are as unique as they are as a person.

Cerebral Palsy results from brain injury before birth, or soon after, that affects mobility and posture, but can also impact cognitive function and vision.

The support and therapy that a child receives in their first 1,000 days greatly improves the chances of their increased functionality through life. This is why it is vitally important that as many doctors and maternal health staff are trained to identify Cerebral Palsy, and have many professionals capable of providing therapy and support to children with Cerebral Palsy.

Steptember is a month long challenge that people undertake through whatever activities possible for themselves that they commit each day of September. I may not be as disciplined and capable as friends with Cerebral Palsy, such as one able to walk the enduring distance of 500km in a fundraising walkathon, but I am determined to dedicate myself to the task and moving in supportive solidarity with those who live with Cerebral Palsy by walking 10,000 steps a day for every day of September.

I'd be grateful if you will please consider donating to support the wellbeing of fellow Australians who happen to be born with, or acquire, Cerebral Palsy. Even if not donating please learn more about people with Cerebral Palsy and their lived experiences, because chances are you know and interact with one and possibly many people with Cerebral Palsy.
