Steptember 26

Because Inclusion Starts With Showing Up

This September, I'm committing to 15,000 steps a day as part of Steptember, raising funds to support babies, children and young people living with cerebral palsy.

For me, this isn't just about fitness or hitting a daily target. It's about recognising that something many of us take for granted, the ability to move freely, isn't always easy for everyone.

Over the years I've been incredibly fortunate to work alongside people with disability in a number of roles. As a qualified Special Needs Education Assistant and through my work in Disability Employment Services, I've seen firsthand the impact that the right support, equipment, therapies and opportunities can have on a person's life. I've also seen the barriers that still exist and how important it is that families don't have to face those challenges alone.

Cerebral palsy is also a cause that hits close to home. One of my son's "uncles", a family friend and neighbour, lives with CP. Growing up, my son has been able to see that people may move through the world differently, but that doesn't define who they are, what they can achieve, or the value they bring to those around them.

Today, my son Oli is part of a specialised learning program at school, where inclusion, support and celebrating individual strengths are part of everyday life. Through his experiences, our family continues to learn about resilience, determination and the importance of ensuring every child has access to the support they need to thrive.

That's why I'm stepping up for Steptember.

Every step I take is a small reminder that many children and families are navigating challenges that most of us never see. If my 15,000 steps a day can help raise funds for research, early intervention, therapy, assistive technology and family support, then every sore foot and extra lap around the block will be worth it.

I'd love your support. Whether it's a donation, sharing this page, or simply cheering me on as I chase my daily goal, every contribution helps create more opportunities for children and young people with cerebral palsy to live the lives they choose.

15,000 steps a day. One month. One worthwhile cause. Let's do this together. đź’ś
