From Recovery to 10K Steps: My Steptember Journey for Babies with CP
Hi, I'm Pam, and this September I'm taking on Steptember for a reason that goes deeper than fitness.
The truth:
Over the last few years, I've been doing it tough health-wise. There were days
when getting out of bed felt like a victory, let alone logging 10,000 steps.
But I'm done waiting for "someday" to feel better. I'm pulling myself
out of this—one step, one swim, one morning at a time. And I'm using Steptember
as my inspirational jumping-off point to reclaim my health and prove to myself
that progress is possible.
Why cerebral palsy?
Because early intervention changes lives. Steptember 2026 is all about the
"first 1,000 days"—the critical window where therapy can make the
biggest difference for babies with cerebral palsy. Just like I'm fighting to
rebuild my own health, these babies need support early so they can grow up with
greater independence, mobility, and opportunity.
My challenge:
Throughout September, I'll be logging 10,000 steps a day. Some days will be
easy. Some days will be hard—especially as someone who knows what it's like to
face health setbacks. But I'm showing up anyway.
And I'm not just tracking steps. I'm writing a daily blog post called "Fact + Feeling", where I share:
- One cerebral palsy awareness fact
- One personal insight or gratitude moment from my day
This is my way of staying accountable, processing my recovery journey, and reminding myself—and anyone reading—that small, consistent actions add up to big change.
What your donation does:
Funds raised through Steptember help the Cerebral Palsy Alliance:
- Identify babies earlier so therapy can start when it makes the biggest difference
- Provide critical therapy and support in the first 1,000 days of life
- Fund research into affordable mobility technology like exoskeletons for children with CP
- Support families across Australia, including those in regional areas
How you can help:
- Donate: Every gift—whether $10 or $100—moves me closer to my fundraising goal and directly supports babies and families affected by cerebral palsy. Your donation is also a vote of confidence in my own recovery journey, and that means more than I can say.
- Share: Forward my fundraiser page to friends, family, or colleagues who might want to join the step challenge or support the cause.
- Follow: Check back on my daily blog posts throughout September to see how the steps (and the stories) are unfolding.
My goal: $750 by September 30
Thank you for being part of this journey. Your support means more than just hitting a step count—it means real therapy, real independence, and real hope for families who need it most. And for me, it's proof that I'm not alone in this fight to reclaim my health.
